At Mountain Park Dentistry, we are committed to staying at the forefront of dental technology to ensure that our patients receive the highest quality of care in the most efficient manner. One of the revolutionary advancements that we proudly offer is CEREC technology, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. This cutting-edge system allows us to design, create, and place dental restorations, such as crowns, veneers, and inlays, all in a single visit.

What is CEREC?

CEREC is a state-of-the-art technology developed by Dentsply Sirona that transforms the way dental restorations are done. Traditionally, getting a crown or other restoration would involve multiple visits to the dentist, messy impressions, temporary crowns, and long wait times while your permanent restoration is crafted at an offsite lab. CEREC eliminates the need for all of that by streamlining the process into a single appointment.

Using digital scanning, 3D modeling, and an in-office milling machine, CEREC allows our dental team to design and produce a custom restoration while you wait. Within just one visit, we can scan your tooth, design a perfectly fitting restoration, mill it from high-quality ceramic, and bond it in place—all with precision and efficiency.

Benefits of CEREC Technology

  1. Same-Day Restorations

One of the most significant benefits of CEREC technology is that it enables us to complete your restoration in just one visit. No more waiting weeks for your crown or other restorations to be made in a dental lab. This is particularly advantageous for busy patients who don’t have the time for multiple appointments.

  1. No Temporary Crowns

In the traditional crown-making process, patients typically need to wear a temporary crown while their permanent one is being created. These temporary crowns can sometimes be uncomfortable or fall off before the permanent one is ready. With CEREC, there is no need for a temporary crown because the permanent restoration is crafted and placed during the same visit.

  1. Digital Precision

CEREC utilizes advanced digital scanning to capture highly accurate images of your teeth. This eliminates the need for uncomfortable and messy traditional impressions. The digital precision ensures that your restoration will fit perfectly, reducing the risk of issues like ill-fitting crowns or discomfort.

  1. Aesthetics

CEREC restorations are made from high-quality ceramic that closely mimics the natural color and translucency of your teeth. This ensures that your crown, veneer, or other restoration will blend seamlessly with the rest of your smile, providing an aesthetically pleasing result. The ability to customize the shade and shape on the spot allows for optimal cosmetic results.

  1. Durability and Strength

CEREC restorations are incredibly durable and long-lasting. The ceramic materials used are designed to withstand the pressures of daily chewing and biting, giving you a restoration that will last for years. In fact, many patients report that their CEREC crowns feel as strong and natural as their original teeth.

  1. Minimally Invasive

CEREC allows for a more conservative approach to treatment. Because the technology is so precise, we are able to preserve more of your natural tooth structure during the preparation process. This is important for maintaining the overall strength and health of your tooth.

How Does the CEREC Process Work?

Step 1: Digital Scanning

The process begins with a digital scan of your tooth using an advanced intraoral camera. This scan captures a detailed, 3D image of the affected area, allowing us to design your restoration with pinpoint accuracy.

Step 2: 3D Design

Once the scan is complete, we use CEREC’s software to create a virtual model of your tooth. This allows us to design a custom restoration that will fit perfectly and restore both the function and appearance of your tooth. We can make adjustments to ensure that the restoration looks and feels natural.

Step 3: Milling the Restoration

After the design is complete, the CEREC milling machine takes over. Using high-quality ceramic, the machine carves out your custom restoration based on the digital design. This process only takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 4: Placement

Once the milling process is finished, we will check the fit of your restoration and make any necessary adjustments. Then, we will bond the restoration to your tooth using a strong dental adhesive. After a quick polish, your new crown, veneer, or inlay is complete!
